Ferrari 348 Spider: the revival of the cult

The components of the old (and, by the way, not the worst) stereo systems left Ferrari almost at full strength, with the exception of three Poweramper amplifiers, which were able to produce more than a decent signal. During the experiments, a lot of different “heads” and speakers were connected to the amplifiers, trying to create the clearest sound picture.

For a good car, ten years is not age. For a supercar worth more than one hundred thousand dollars – even more so. And although elite cars almost never linger long at the first owners, owners of used cars of the Maserati or Porsche level are unlikely to have a reason for dissatisfaction. The comfort and dynamic characteristics of such cars, released in the early nineties, will not cause complaints. Is that their music systems, which were once the latest advances in the field of car audio, in the new century, even pull the middle class. But it is easy to fix.

Bodywork masters Pininfarina, have long been engaged in the design of Ferrari cars, always with great reluctance to make changes in the style of this brand. As time has shown, this solution turned out to be very far-sighted – the classic forms of the Ferrari 348th series produced from 1989 to 1994 – Spider, GTB Berlinetta and GTS Targa – today have not lost their appeal. The appearance of these models can be considered quite modern, even without the styling, which is popular in Germany – plastic linings and more modern wheel disks. However, having managed to create an inimitable image of a high-speed car, the Italians paid very little attention to the interior of cars. To Ferrari’s recognized “family” inconvenience — a low roof, in which some overly tall drivers practically rest their heads — you can add a faceless black leather trim, an unsightly (albeit comfortable) steering wheel, and archaic square air ducts. By the standards of the capital, somehow it is all too easy for such a cult machine.

The simplicity of the serial interior was the reason for the meeting between the owner of the Ferrari 348 Spider and the specialists of the Moscow company Sound Lab. The car was the tenth year, it’s time to update the interior and change the “music”. Seeing on the street one of the early works of the company – Ferrari 355 F1 Berlinetta, the owner of the 348th compared the inner world of his car with a stranger’s salon, made conclusions and soon discussed with the managers of Sound Lab the details of improving the interior of his Ferrari and the Hi -End.

Head car
It took the installers two and a half months to create and customize the music system, and most of the time was spent listening to and adjusting different parts of the music path. The components of the old (and, by the way, not the worst) stereo systems left Ferrari almost at full strength, with the exception of three Poweramper amplifiers, which were able to produce more than a decent signal. During the experiments, a lot of different “heads” and speakers were connected to the amplifiers, trying to create the clearest sound picture. As a result, Sound Lab installers considered the installation of an advanced head unit with a changer and per-channel signal amplification for each speaker group the best solution.

The player’s choice fell on the Pioneer DEX-P9R CD tuner, which belongs to the “Pioneer” Premier Reference series, which also includes only the DEQ-P9 digital equalizer and processor. The manufacturer recommends the use of these devices together, so the installers included in the circuit and the processor.

Any expensive “head” is good because it not only gives out a perfectly clear signal and looks great, but also has a large number of options. This player is no exception – he has more than enough options. Profile magazines in one voice call the Pioneer DEX-P9R one of the most beautiful and functionally rich head units of modern times – it has all the settings that exist in a car car audio, up to the options for muting the sound when talking on a cell phone and voice control. Ergonomics is also on the level. Almost all the small buttons are removed from the front panel, on which only four main keys remain. The remaining functions are transferred to the encoder and joystick. The large display, devoid of the traditional “Pioneer” animated screensavers, has a truly high-end option – to eliminate the possibility of micro-noise entering the sound path, the display can be completely turned off, after which it will turn on for only a few seconds after pressing any buttons, and then again slowly fade away.

CD changer picked up almost immediately. By experience, knowing that “heads” often conflict with “non-native” changers, the installers chose a suitable “changer” for the disks from the model range of the company whose name was on the player.

Successful exception
