In fact, the car is a Formula 1 car, dressed in a “civilian” body. However, Enzo Ferrari himself during his lifetime always said that the most important thing in his cars was the engine, and everything else was secondary. In fact, the car of his name is also built around the engine. Under the hood lies a 6-liter 48-valve V12 engine with a collapse of cylinders of 65 degrees, developing a power of 660 hp at 7800 rev / min and crazy torque – 657 Nm at 5500 rev / min. The engine is equipped with intake and exhaust manifolds, whose length varies depending on the engine speed. From zero to one hundred kilometers per hour, the novelty accelerates in less than four seconds, and its maximum speed is almost 350 kilometers per hour.

A full-size model of the Ferrari Enzo was blown through the wind tunnel for many hours, so that its parameters meet two basic requirements: to ensure effective cooling of the engine and brakes, as well as to create the necessary downforce with minimal aerodynamic drag. At high speeds, the shape of the bottom of the Ferrari Enzo plays the role of a kind of diffuser, which creates the necessary downforce. This technique was invented at one time and tested on Formula 1 cars, but because of its effectiveness, it was very quickly banned by the FIA ​​rules.

The author of the appearance of the car was an employee of the Pininfarina design bureau Japanese Okiyama. Almost unknown among his colleagues in the shop, the next morning after the premiere of Ferrari Enzo, he woke up famous. The car body is made in the form of a cocoon of carbon fiber and aluminum and weighs only 92 kg. The doors open up and forward, leaving only a narrow longitudinal jumper above the heads, running from the windshield to the protective arc behind the seats. The seats themselves are customized for a specific buyer. All instruments and controls are made in the spirit of formula cars. In the testing and debugging of pre-production samples Ferrari Enzo took an active part “himself” Michael Schumacher. Apparently, from his formula car, the car fell into a three-spoke steering wheel. In its upper part, five LEDs are mounted, which light up as the engine speed increases and begin to flash when the tachometer needle approaches the red zone (8000 rpm). There are six buttons on the steering wheel – to enable reverse gear and direction indicators, control the onboard computer, as well as to change the mode of the gearbox. For example, pressing the “Race” button shortens the gearshift time, the suspension becomes stiffer, and the traction control system allows the wheels to slip when the accelerator is pressed hard even on dry pavement. By the way, the six-speed manual has three synchronizers in each gear and is structurally integrated with the engine, as in F1 cars. In addition, it is also part of the supporting structure of the car – the rear suspension and body panels are attached to it.

Total will be released 349 copies of Ferrari Enzo, which all, despite its price of $ 660 thousand, have already been painted. However, in response to the wishes of the workers, the Ferrari company is now thinking of releasing an additional 50 copies.
