Renault Scenic II: value “Scenic”
In the new “Scenic” you will not find a single line that would remind you of the model’s predecessor generous in oval shapes, but there are more than enough parts connecting the car to the Renault Espace IV and Renault Megane II.
Sensation! Two million cars sold in six years of release! A whole new class with competitors who are always late! If they were making films about the bestsellers of the market, the poster about the first “Scenic” should look like this. And those who would have spent the money on tickets already knew that a no less hit sequel – Renault Scenic II – was shot and is about to appear in cinemas. Let us pay tribute to the professional courage of the French company’s marketing specialists: putting a hatchback on one of the fattest lambs on the altar and giving it the form of a stylish, but not yet proven to be commercially viable, is a strong and risky move. In the new “Scenic” you will not find a single line that would remind you of the model’s predecessor generous in oval shapes, but there are more than enough parts connecting the car to the Renault Espace IV and Renault Megane II. A reverse monobuck rear tilt, rear solution, false radiator panel and bonnet design – these features are already becoming the French brand style. It can be treated differently, but one cannot be denied for sure – the new Renault Scenic II will be hard not to notice on the streets, and even less to remember its name.
According to the creators, the main task that they solved was to combine the versatility of the minivan with the driving characteristics and comfort of a sedan. As a result, the car was endowed with a mass of positive qualities both in this and in other areas – a broad gauge, a large base and short overhangs. The interior of the car is determined by the central location of the dashboard, placed on a large torpedo with a gearbox joystick, a convertible cabin and many interesting solutions such as a 15-liter mobile armrest tank that can move from the front passengers to the rear, or the front seat, which can be turned into a flat and flat table It is worth remembering such a fact: when developing the first Scenic, the company’s specialists saved on expenses by “transplanting” the interior from a simple Megane. Now it was indecent to risk, and investments in the inner world of the new model allow developers to declare without shame about the excellent quality of all the materials used and the excellent level of assembly of interior parts. As in the case of the Megane II, the Scenic’s sales system supports the “restaurant menu” principle – the buyer can choose and combine his favorite body color, trim level, vehicle equipment and engine size in one car.
Compared to its predecessor, the Scenic II is 8 centimeters longer, and important internal saloon parameters have increased. The windshield with an area of 1.4 square meters promises an excellent overview, and you can always surprise the passengers with a transparent panoramic roof with an area of 1.61 square meters. Finishing the topic of glazing, it is worth noting that the Scenic II will be the only car of the MPV class, which is equipped with a separately opening rear window.
Among other new products announced in the new car, the list includes electronic parking brake, bi-xenon headlights and two advanced navigation systems Carminat Guidance (simpler) and Carminat Advanced Navigation System (more sophisticated), equipped with a color display on the dashboard to showcase electronic maps of the area.
Renault Scenic II is equipped with front and rear suspension from the model Megane II, and can also be equipped with any engine from a wide range of sixteen valve petrol engines of 1.4 (98 hp), 1.6 (115 hp) and 2.0 liters (136 l. pp.), as well as diesel units 1.5 dCi (80hp and 100 hp) and 1.9 dCi (120 hp). Five-and six-speed manual transmissions, as well as Proactive “automatic”, are borrowed from the Megane II lineup with little or no rework.
The systems of active and passive safety of the new car include a new generation of ESP, ABS and Brake Assist systems, as well as the development of Michelin tire makers – the PAX mobility maintenance system. If the “contact” can not be avoided, crushed body zones will enter into action.
