Fiat Punto : Like adults
The new “Punto”, like the previous one, is striking in the number of modifications: as many as eight engines, including one turbodiesel and mixed (gas-gasoline), four types of transmission (two mechanical transmissions, one automatic and adaptive), eight equipment options, 13 standard colors bodywork.
Over one of the brightest representatives of the European compact segment of B clouds thickened. Uncertainty about the financial position of the Italian concern, possible bankruptcy and the subsequent sale of the largest national automaker to foreign competitors, seemed to put an end to the new models. But no! The presentation of the new versions of the most successful Punto model today is designed to take the company out of a protracted crisis. Let’s see what engineers and designers have done there. The previous “Punto”, note, sold in Europe millions of copies …
The new “Punto”, like the previous one, is striking in the number of modifications: as many as eight engines, including one turbodiesel and mixed (gas-gasoline), four types of transmission (two manual transmissions, one automatic and adaptive), eight equipment options, 13 standard colors bodywork. This is only for two types of hatchback: five-and three-door. There are plenty to choose from. The times when Fiats were considered cheap and unsophisticated subcompacts have sunk into oblivion. From now on, Italian cars symbolize a stylish look, polished handling and … comfort! Yes, now the Italian mini is stuffed with electronics no less than the pretentious “Germans” or high-tech “Japanese”.
The five-door hatchback is only 2 cm long (3.86 m versus 3.84), but both versions have a rather spacious luggage compartment of 297 liters, which triples with the rear seats folded. All cars are decorated with a huge brand emblem on the hood, which has become a very popular trophy among collectors.
Opens the lineup version with the most modest 1.2 8V engine, 60 hp. at 5000 rpm More modern engine 1.3 16V MultiJet already accelerates to 164 km / h and it is much more economical (5.6 liters in the city and 3.4 on the highway).
The 1.9 JTD diesel engine with the second-generation Common Rail direct injection system looks no worse than its gasoline counterparts: 85 horses (63 kW) at 3,500 rpm, with a top speed of 173 km / h and acceleration to a hundred in 12.2 s. But the main advantage of a diesel engine, of course, is its economy – with the result of 4.9 liters in the combined cycle “city-highway” it looks quite decent.
The sports versions of “Punto” have modern engines of 1.8 16V and 1.9, the last of which is also from the MultiJet family. In addition to improved dynamics and maximum speed of up to 200 km / h, the “athletes” stand out with exclusive colors, including metallic with a three-dimensional effect, other bumpers and dashboard trim with chrome and leather interior, 15-inch aluminum wheels of the original design . Top versions are also equipped with sophisticated electronic security systems: ABS, ESP (body stabilization inItalian cars symbolize a stylish look), ASR, MSR, HBA (hydraulic brake booster). Of the optional, but very useful on the long road accessories, it is worth noting the multifunction display of the trip computer, satellite navigation system and cruise control. For music lovers in the new “Punto” go crazy: 3 types of FM-radio, complete with audio cassette, CD player or MP3-files. After that, mentioning the climate control with separate adjustment for the driver and passengers, parking and rain sensors is simply superfluous.
