BMW E36: with respect for excellence

The new restyling package from the St. Petersburg studio FASST Car Club continues this trend, in contrast to the “Mercedes-Benz”, which for some reason has not yet received distribution in Russia.

In just a couple of weeks, the BMW E36 can become outwardly almost indistinguishable from the modern M3. And we are talking about the package of its own design, and not about the one being purchased somewhere in the West and only screwed in Russia.

If you closely monitor the technical condition of the car, a BMW can serve the owner for twenty or even thirty years. However, the exterior of the car will become obsolete much earlier. No matter how classical and iconic the forms of the Bavarian coupe may be, by the end of the second five-year plan of exploitation, the exterior of the car will begin to actively move toward the retro. But this is a coupe – cars that people usually acquire, not only appreciating bright dynamic characteristics, but also versed in automotive style! For them, and from birth, a lot of variants of “body kit” and whole “body-whales” are made, allowing to enhance the external effect, and sometimes even to the extent that exceeds the limits of common sense and taste. But the car, which appeared before us on an August afternoon in St. Petersburg, did not stand out with a shrill kitsch plastic. She did not make the impression of the car, past any external tuning. At first sight…

Thought the service turned out … club.
The FASST Car Club car service on Arsenalnaya Embankment was opened recently, but the experience of the local masters has been calculated for many years. Initially it was assumed that the main customers would be BMW owners, but as a result, in addition to Bavarian cars, “Germans” of other brands and “Japanese” come to the pits. Perhaps, now the “main contingent” are those machines that are considered interesting and driverless in the circle of connoisseurs. And the name was formed from the consonance of the abbreviations of the names of the owners and the words “quick” – indeed, “Fast cars club”! That fully applies to any generation of “Bavarians” – this is exactly what any owner will confirm! And people who have spent many years not only repairing cars, but also finishing cars, tuning and styling work in the “Club”. Behind the engineers of the FASST Car Club work in the country’s famous automotive design bureau. Such a biography simply could not but lead to the fact that at one point (read, soon after the necessary premises and production facilities appeared), a tuning direction was added to the list of services. From an advanced service station, where for less than the official service, money, but no less professionally, you can repair, diagnose and adjust the car, FASST Car Club has turned into a tuning studio that can top-level many of the car’s components. And as a business card for entering the tuning market, the guys from FASST Car Club created a unique restyled kit for a BMW in the E36 body. The project, the idea of ​​which was hatched long ago and with love.

The best of two generations.
From a technical point of view, the BMW E36 is not fundamentally different from the BMW E46. Yes, in the “forty-sixth” more e-filling. Yes, the suspension on a more modern model is made of aluminum. But constructively, it is, as well as the engines and transmissions of these two generations are almost the same. The difference between the two “treshki” – in appearance, ten years of life and, alas, twice the cost of E46. Owners of ten-year-old BMWs are not always ready to transfer to a fresh model – the dynamic characteristics of the car will not change too much (and not the fact, by the way, that modern engines are painfully “stifled” by environmental requirements), and pay only for external changes to the car tens of thousands of “green”, to put it mildly, not everyone can afford. Designers and engineers of FASST Car Club did not invent a new body kit for the E36. They spent more than six months on the development, creation and fitting of elements and as a result turned the experimental E36 coupe release of the early nineties into … an almost exact copy of the modern E46 in version M3.

The front and rear arches each widened by 30 mm due to plastic linings implanted into the body according to a special, long-established technology. Technically, this is justified – the track of the car grew by just 60 mm, and the problem of maintaining controllability was taken into account and solved. It took a lot of time to develop unique wheel arch covers – since the owner decided to keep the car young, then he should be helped in the fight against corrosion.
