He was many-sided and amazingly tenacious. In different parts of the world, he was known as Corsar, Carat, Santana and Quantum. Yes, the mission “to become the founder of a class named after himself,” as the more successful younger brother did, failed, but he managed to become a people’s car. In China, the second generation model did not leave the conveyor for 27 years – until 2012! Welcome long-lived – Volkswagen Passat B2.
If the first Passat painted Giorgetto Giugiaro, then when developing his successor, the Germans decided to do without outside help. Increased in size B2 got its own face, ceasing to be the likeness of the Audi 80. Passat wagon is a special case. Because he went further than other modifications from being related to Audi. In the range of 80-ki “barn” was missing, but at the Passat, he was the most massive body.
However, the achievements of the great Italian have not gone away. Just imagine such a Passat, but in a three-door version – what is not a Shooting Brake for falconry? In reality, the three-door Passat was produced, but only as a hatchback.
The inscription “Trophy” under the label on the fifth door is no accident. So called one of the special complete sets of Passat, presented in 1987. At this point, the total number of Passat sold, produced in five body styles, exceeded four million. Externally, the Trophy wagon could boast bumpers in body color and stickers along the sides (they are almost not visible on this color). Variants of colors: “Alpine white”, “Blue Sea” and specially developed metallic colors – dark blue and light blue, as in our case. Body – any choice, including the sedan, which is absent from the previous generation.

Electrical equipment, with the exception of rear window heating, is absent as a class, even the rear-view mirrors are mechanically regulated. For a car produced in 1987, which is used daily by the current owner, this is a definite plus.

But nine months ago, when the current owner, Alexander, just bought a Passat for 100,000 rubles, it wasn’t all that bright. Passat barely accelerated, the engine Troilus, and fuel consumption on the highway reached 15 l / 100 km. Over 13,000 rubles a bulkhead and a carburetor adjustment were made, the ignition was set, the terminals on the battery wires were replaced and the carburetor was heated. Along the way, they replaced the cooling system pump, the thermostat together with the case, and also washed the system. After the audit, it was the turn of the full suspension bulkhead, which cost 40,000 rubles.
